874,722. Clamps. SCHMITTHELM, D., [trading as SCHMITTHELM, FEDERN-UND METALLWARENFABRIK, ERNST]. May 28, 1959 [June 3, 1958], No. 18264/59. Class 44. A clamping device for use in leather stretching comprises a casing 1 with a first lever 3, a second lever 12 and an actuating lever 15 pivoted thereon, the second lever 12 being oscillatable by the actuating lever 15 against the action of a bowed spring 8 and the first lever 3 being movable by the second lever in the opposite sense of rotation thereto so that the leather to be clamped is held fast between the first lever 3 and a free end 13 of the second lever 12 which together form a toggle link, the second lever being resilient and comprising a flat spring having a fold formed intermediate tis ends thereby to permit longitudinal resilience in the second lever, one end of which spring is fastened to the underside of a pressure plate 11 pivoted to the casing 1 and the other end of which is slidable freely over the pressure plate 11 and has its extreme edge bent to form one side of the toggle link. As shown, the lever 3 is pivotally mounted between side walls 2 of the member 1. The plate 11 is pivotally and slidably mounted in recesses 9 in the side walls 2. The lever 15 is pivoted on a pin 18 and carries in a recess 19 a ball 20 which bears on the plate 11, such that as the lever is pivoted towards and into engagement with the spring 8, the lever 12 is rocked into engagement with and depresses the lever 3 against its spring 5.
