An appliance for rearing piglets and other young animals comprises teats 13 detachably mounted in two rows on the front face of a removable member 15 of elastic material which is applied to the rear face of the front wall 4 of a container and formed with channels or grooves 18 along which food passes, releasable means being provided for compressing the member 15 against the front wall 4 of the container thereby sealing the channels 18. The front face of the member 15 has a series of projections 16 engaging in apertures 11 in the wall 4 and having flanged outer ends 16a Fig. 4, for holding the teats in position. The channels 18 extend from the projections 16 to notches 19 formed in the lower edge, of the member 15 and engaged by notches 21 in the lower end of a pressure plate 20 which is adhesively secured to the member 15. A partition 22 secured to the plate 20 has a channel 23 along its rear, its lower edge being carried in a sealing strip 24 on the base of the container. A wedging plate composed of a rubber sheet 25 sandwiched between two metal plates 25a, can be slid into the channel 23 on the plate 22 and a similar channel 26 on the back wall 1 of the container. A thick rubber sheet 27, perforated to receive the teats, covers the wall 4. End pieces moulded to represent the head and hind quarters of a sow may be fitted.
