Abstract
874,530. Radar. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. Dec. 8, 1959 [Dec. 11, 1958], No. 41683/59. Class 40(7) [Also in Group XL(b) ] A radar P.P.I. picture 4 is scanned by a television camera 5 for transmission to a remote display 11 or magnetic recorder, the scanning being controlled to proceed at normal speed over predetermined areas of interest and at an increased speed, e.g. 100 times normal, over the remaining areas of no interest by means of an arrangement comprising an appropriately formed mask 7<SP>1</SP> which is scanned in synchronism with camera 5 by a flying-spot scanner 7 and viewed by a photo-electric cell 8 whose output is applied through an amplifier 9 to control the scanning generator 6. The cell output may also be employed to eliminate the signals due to areas of no interest either by blocking picture amplifier 10 or by signal suppression in camera 5. Synchronizing pulses may be added to the picture signals as indicated by the dotted connection between generator 6 and amplifier 10. The television camera employs conventional scanning in Cartesian co-ordinates, the lines preferably running approximately perpendicular to the length of the areas of interest.
