Abstract
The invention comprises amphetamine salts of barbituric acids, for example the 5-ethyl-5-a -methylbutyl-and 5-ethyl-5-phenyl-barbituric acids prepared by reacting equimolecular quantities of the amine and the substituted barbituric acid. The products are used pharmaceutically as anorexic agents (see Group VI).ALSO:Anorexic preparations comprise an amphetamine salt of a barbituric acid, e.g. 5-ethyl-5-a -methylbutyl- and 5-ethyl-5-phenyl-barbituric acid, in a dosage unit form, e.g. a tablet or capsule, which may also contain an inert pharmaceutical excipient. Preferably the preparations contain 10 to 15 mg. of the salt per dosage unit. Examples describe capsules comprising amphetamine 5 - ethyl - 5 - phenyl - barbiturate.
