Abstract
873,892. Cathode-ray oscilloscopes; transistor sawtooth generating circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 20, 1960 [April 20, 1959], No. 13398/59. Classes 40(6) and 40(7) Relates to the display of symbols on a cathode-ray tube (C.R.T.) screen by the coded intensity-modulation of a rectangular raster. According to the invention synchronism between the symbol pulse trains and line and frame timebases is assured by generating the pulse trains and timebase initiating pulses from coupled rotating members. In the embodiment described motor-driven shaft 32 carries discs 2 . . . 9 coded for synchronizing a seven-line raster and pulse trains for numerals nought to nine, pulses being generated electro-magnetically by series coils 35, 36 on the pole-pieces of permanent magnet 34. Several C.R.T.s 16 . . . are provided each being associated with a manual symbol selector 19 . . . . The pulses may alternatively be generated by motor-driven ganged switch banks. One pulse train may be a combination of two or more symbols. Transistor sawtooth generating circuits, Fig. 4. Each generator 10, 11 comprises a similar circuit. Frame sawtooth generator 10 includes terminals 54, 55 across which the frame synchronizing pulse is applied thus causing transistor 70 to conduct and discharge capacitor 64 which thereafter charges through resistor 62 and inductor 66. The linear sawtooth voltage across the inductor is amplified and applied to the C.R.T. Y-plates via transformer 76.
