Abstract
873,750. Endless conveyers. CORNING GLASS WORKS. June 26, 1959 [June 30, 1958], No. 22047/59. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] In a forming machine, for articles such as glass bulbs, having a plurality of elements successively employed in the formation of the articles and having means at a delivery position for disassociating formed articles from the machines, means are provided for pre-selecting those articles whose formation has involved the employment of a particular element of the machine and for disassociating them therefrom while on their way to such delivery position. As shown, the device is applied to a ribbon type glass bulb blowing machine such as in Specifica. tion 276,606 in which a ribbon of glass 27 is deposited on orifice plates 20 on a chain 19 travelling on rails 17, 18 about a closed path and the articles such as bulbs 26 are formed by sagging through the plates and being blown by blowheads on a chain after moulds close over the sagged glass. After leaving the moulds the bulbs are ejected by a crack-off device. In front of this ejector device, a further ejector device as shown in Fig. 3 is positioned. This comprises an ejector 22 of any suitable form, which may be a hammer actuated by a solenoid 23 when momentarily energized, and a conveyer 25 to receive an ejected bulb 26, the solenoid 23 being under the control of a selector switch 30 having manually operable switches 42 with associated push buttons 31 relating to each particular mould, blowhead or orifice plate. Fixed contacts 41 on the switch 30, associated with each switch 42, are arranged so that the bulb 26 made with the use of the particular mould, blowhead or orifice plate is opposite the ejector hammer 22 as a wiper 40 on a drive shaft 36 passes over the contact 41 and thereby energizes the solenoid 23 when the switch 42 has been closed, the shaft 36 being driven through suitable gearing 32, 35 from the main shaft 21. Specification 348,376 and U.S.A. Specification 2,091,494 also are referred to.
