Abstract
873,416. Mounting electric lamps in casings. NATURAL LIGHTING CORPORATION. June 29, 1959, No. 22262/59. Class 75(4). [Also in Group XXV] An electric lamp is retained in a housing by means of a spring ring supported by the housing and having a set of prongs arranged to press on the front face of the electric lamp. In the form shown, the lamp 15, Fig. 4, which may be of the sealed beam type, is mounted in a housing consisting of two co-axial cylinders 22, 23 connected by a frusto-conical part 24 and is retained in place by a spring ring 16, Fig. 3, having projecting sets of fingers 17, 18, the fingers 17 being of different length from the fingers 18 and the outer ends of the fingers of each set lying in planes parallel to the plane of the ring 16. The spring ring 16 normally fits into a groove 25 in the housing 22, the ends 19 of the ring being turned inwards so that the ring can be contracted for removal from the groove. The base 36 of the lamp has means, e.g. prongs, for engaging a connector 30 for the electric supply. The rear of the housing carries a hand wheel 33 on the shaft of which is a bifurcated bracket 34 engaging the connector 30 and spring urged from the rear wall of the housing by spring 35. Rotation of the wheel 33 rotates the lamp in its axis. Lamps of differing sizes can be supported in the housing by reversing the ring. The planes formed by the sets of fingers may be on opposite sides of the ring or one may coincide with the plane of the ring.
