Abstract
872,723. Laminates. HUNT, P., and BOVEY, E., and BRITISH SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENT RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Nov. 3, 1959 [Nov. 3, 1958], No. 35163/58. Class 140. [Also in Group XX] A projection screen comprises two glass plates, polished or rough ground, with an interposed layer of microcrystalline wax of mineral origin. The thickness of the wax layer may be predetermined by means of wire spacers separating the plates. The glass plates are cleaned by conventional methods with a final application of cold water, the surplus being removed as a continuous film by an air jet which chases it across the glass surface. The clean pieces of glass are placed in suitable jigs and the whole placed in an oven together with a quantity of a selected microcrystalline wax of mineral origin in a beaker. The temperature is increased until the wax flows freely, usually about 10‹ C. above its melting point. It is then poured on to one of the glass plates and the other plate is lowered slowly upon it, care being taken to avoid the formation of air bubbles. After the components have been assembled the oven is switched off and the screen allowed to cool naturally whilst still in the oven.
