Abstract

3962. K÷hler, A. Feb. 23, 1911, [Convention date]. Transferring designs.-Coloured art prints, pictures, photographs, &c. are transferred from paper to canvas backings so as to produce prints &c. resembling oil paintings. To transfer the picture from its paper backing, the backing is first soaked in water, and placed on a firm support, and layers of paper are peeled off from the back of the paper. The remainder of the paper is then removed by placing the picture face downwards on a smooth glass or metal support, covering the edge of the picture with an adjustable protecting-frame, and submitting the back of the picture to the rinsing action of water carrying sand in suspension. Either the picture or the water may be moved to effect the rinsing. The picture is then covered with a canvas backing on which a hot mixture of isinglass and gum-arabic has been placed, and the picture is finished by compressing the picture thus formed with a layer of canvas placed over the face of the picture. This canvas is removed after the compressing operation.
