Abstract

871,451. Clamp fastenings. CARR FASTENER CO. Ltd. Sept. 11, 1959 [Sept. 18, 1958], No. 29935/58. Class 44. A device for clamping two panels together in superposed relation comprises two elongated members 1, 3 one of said members 3 supporting a strip 10 of resilient material continuously along the length of the strip, the strip having a series of teeth 11 extending longitudinally of the strip and facing the other member, the device also including means at each end of the members for securing the members together when the panels have been inserted between the members to clamp the panels between the series of teeth of the strip and other member. The member 1 is formed with an arm 2 projecting at right angles from one end and the member 3 is of channel shape, one end of which has a projection 4 with a slot 5 with which the arm 2 is engageable to provide a hinge connection for the two members. The opposite end of the member 3 is formed with a slot 6 to receive a bolt 7 extending at right angles from the opposite end of the base member 1 to that having the arm 2. A nut 8 screws on to the bolt 7 to clamp of the member 3 against a stop 9 formed adjacent to the bolt 7. The strip 10 is made of natural or artificial rubber or synthetic plastic material and is positioned in the channel of the member 3 so as to project from the open end of the channel towards the member 1; the projecting portion of the strip 10 is formed with the teeth 11 which are spaced equidistantly apart longitudinally of the strip. The device is intended for clamping printed circuit panels together and the teeth are arranged so as to exert pressure on portions of the panels having circuit portions which it is desired should be in mutual contact so that each tooth 11 exerts pressure on appropriate parts of the panels. Instead of the teeth being equally spaced the strip 10 can be formed with two or more relatively wide teeth spaced at equal or unequal distances so that pressure is exerted on predetermined portions of the panels. Instead of using a nut and bolt for clamping the members 1, 3 together, a cam operable by a lever can be provided. Further,' instead of there being a hinge connection at one end clamping means can be provided at each end.
