Abstract

870,751. Stacking boxes. BREHMER FOLDING BOX CO. Ltd. Feb. 27, 1958 [Feb. 27, 1957 ; May 24, 1957,] Nos. 6632/57 and 16620/57. Class 18. A box or tray corner reinforcing device comprises a rigid elongated portion of right-angled cross section and having spaced parallel walls joined together near their upper ends and open near their lower ends to permit the device to be slid over the corner of a box, the device having a flat surface on which a corner of a box placed on the box to which the device is fitted can rest, the device also being provided with a shoulder 15 which rests on the upper edge of the box to which the device is fitted. In a preferred embodiment, Fig. 5, the device is formed of a metal member 17 secured to a member 16 which may be a wooden block or a sheet metal stamping (as shown). A shoulder 11 is provided with an upstanding portion 12 to enable boxes to be stably piled on each other. Triangular tags 18, punched inwardly to resist removal of the device, may be provided. The member 16, 17 may be nailed or spot-welded together if both are made of metal. In a modification, not shown the member 16 is shaped to provide the shoulder 15 and the member 17 consists of a rectangular metal sheet bent to form a right angle and secured to the member 16 to project a small amount beyond the top end thereof. The device may be used on a box formed from a cardboard blank one corner of which is shown in Fig. 7. The flap 26 is secured beneath the bottom of the box and finally a portion 37 is folded about a fold line 38 and tucked between panels 32, 39. Specification 867,321 is referred to.
