870,733. Specific-gravity estimating apparatus. HALLIBURTON CO. May 14, 1958 [Feb. 3, 1958], No. 15506/58. Class 97(3) [Also in Group XXV] In apparatus for measuring the density of a flowing fluid used in well bore operations, such as drilling or fracturing fluids or cement slurries, the fluid is passed from fixed conduit 36, Fig. 3, through flexible pipe 40 to a U-tube 16, returning through flexible pipe 40a to fixed conduit 38, the tube 16 deflecting under the weight of fluid passing therethrough. The deflections of tube 16, which may be balanced by a counterweight, are transmitted through link 20, Fig. 5, to a beam 51 which is pivoted at 52 and damped by dash pot 54. A nut 56, which is adjustable to set the range of the instrument, acts upon a secondary beam 58, pivoted at 60 and, through flapper valve assembly 66, controls the covering and uncovering of an air nozzle 72 connected to an air system 22. A restriction 78 provided in the air system is smaller in diameter than nozzle 72. When the nozzle 72 is covered by flapper valve asembly 66, back pressure builds up in the air system and this, through bellows 62, rebalances the system, the pressure being measured as an indication of the fluid density. The pipe 16 is pivoted by pairs of vertical and horizontal flat steel springs 42, 42a, and 44, 44a. U.S.A. Specification 2,613,530 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 776,926.
