Abstract

870,535. Electric selectors. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Aug. 14, 1959 [Aug. 19, 1958], No. 27847/59. Class 40 (4). The coil formers 1, Fig. 1, of a co-ordinate switch comprising magnetic reed contacts 12 arranged in protective tubes 2 are detachably mounted on bars 6, Fig. 2, by resilient retaining clips 6<SP>111</SP>, 8 which also provide magnetic screening. A single coil 3 is individual to each crosspoint of the co-ordinate switch. The formers are of thermoplastic material and each has an integral end 1<SP>11</SP> with a recess which is engaged by a lug 8<SP>1</SP> on the clip 8. The other end is covered by an insulating plate 5. An extension 7 of the former contains a rectifier (not shown) and together with three extensions 1<SP>111</SP> of the plate 5 fits into a cut-out 6<SP>11</SP> in the bar 6. Soldering tags 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP> forming part of the contacts 2 extend through slots 9 in the plate 5 and in the end wall 1<SP>11</SP> and are frictionally held by wedges 10<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3. A plastic sponge 4 rests on the plate 5 and supports the tubes 2. Horizontal and vertical connections 13, 14 to the tags are provided, Figs. 4, 5. Formers 1 each having a large number of contacts, Figs. 6, 7, are interconnected by a ribbon cable or printed circuit. Two retaining clips 8, 8<SP>11</SP> are provided. In both embodiments the sides of the formers are magnetically shielded by sheet metal caps.
