A liner 1 (Fig. 1), placed in the body of a vehicle before it is loaded has devices 5 by which it is supported from the walls of the body, and is lifted by hooks 11, 12, the hooks 12 at at least one side being released automatically, when relieved of load, to permit the load to be dumped after it has been lifted from the vehicle. As shown, the liner comprises several wire-netting panels joined together and suspended from the hooks 11, 12 by chains 9 from the spreader 6. Each hook 12 may comprise pincer arms 13, 14 (Fig. 3), held closed by a pin 17 which is withdrawn by a chain 20 when the net is lifted; in this condition pincers are held closed by the tension in the chains 15 but are subsequently opened by a spring 16 when the net is lowered to the ground. In the alternative construction of Fig. 10 a hook 32 can be held in its closed position A by a compression spring 34 but is pulled over a dead-centre when weight is applied to it. In a further construction (Figs. 6-8, not shown), a hook similar to the hook 32 of Fig. 10 is normally biased to its open position by a spring which is insufficient to overcome the weight of the net but can be held closed by a manually-operated pawl.
