Class 78 (4) The side and bottom walls of a basket for unloading fish and other cargo are of net and the bottom wall 11 (Fig. 2) has a discharge opening 26 which may be closed by a draw rope 25. The ends of the rope 25 are formed with pineapples 23a, 24a by which they may be secured in slots 22 in the ends of one of a pair of spreaders 13, 14 secured to the upper edges 5a, 5a (Fig. 1) of the basket to hold the opening 26 closed. The walls of the basket are defined by upper and lower rope frames 5, 6, joined by side ropes 7. The net panels are seized to the ropes 5, 6, 7 by cords 12 which also secure the wooden spreaders 13, 14 to the upper sides 5a, 5a of the basket. The basket may be suspended for hoisting by a pair of ropes 17 each secured to brackets 16 on one of the spreaders 13, 14 and threaded through a ring 19 adapted to slip over a crane hook 20. It may be suspended for filling by rope bights 33 (Figs. 1 and 4) secured at 31 to the walls 32 of a hold and slipped over the ends of the spreaders 13, 14. Hinged flaps 35 on the walls 32 may then rest on the spreaders to guide fish into the basket. The pineapples 23a, 24a and the ends of the spreader 14 may be coloured to indicate the proper anchoring of the ends of the draw rope 25. The ends of the draw rope 25 may be provided, beyond the pineapples 23a, 24a with eyelets to facilitate manual handling. Canvas strips arranged radially in the bottom of the basket may facilitate the movement of small fish to the discharge opening. The basket may be cylindrical and its shape may then be defined by upper and lower metal rings to which the netting walls are secured.
