Abstract
870,241. Paper used for cleaning. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. Dec. 2, 1959 [Dec. 8, 1958], No. 40909/59. Class 96. [Also in Group XXIII] A cleaning sheet, for removing dirt and/or oil, comprises absorbent paper having particles of an inorganic adsorbent substance incorporated in or coated on it in contiguity with a profusion of pressure-rupturable capsules, formed by coacervation, each containing a droplet of a water-insoluble organic liquid cleanser, which is released when the capsules are ruptured by the pressure exerted between the sheet and an article being cleaned and, together with the dirt and/or oil, is adsorbed by the particles and absorbed by the paper. In making the cleaning sheet, a coating composition containing the adsorbent particles is applied to absorbent paper followed by the application of a coating composition containing the capsules. Alternatively, a coating composition containing adsorbent particles and capsules is applied to absorbent paper. In a further alternative, adsorbent particles are incorporated in paper pulp, which is made into absorbent paper, which is then coated with a composition containing the capsules. Adsorbent substances specified are attapulgite, montmorillonite, kaolin, bentonite, and natural or artificial zeolites of the sodium-aluminium silicate type. Cleansing liquids specified are: diethyl benzene, carbon tetrachloride, gasoline, kerosene, light lubricating petroleum oil, toluene, and xylene. Coating compositions containing the adsorbent particles may be aqueous and may also contain starch, animal glue, casein, or polyvinyl alcohol. The capsules may be formed by coacervation in an aqueous medium containing gelatine, gum arabic, a polyethylene- or polyvinylmethylether-maleic anhydride copolymer, and glutaraldehyde and the resulting medium may be used as a coating composition.
