Abstract

869,581. Transistor amplifiers; pulse modulation circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Dec. 10, 1959 [Dec. 10, 1958], No. 39852/58. Classes 40(5) and 40(6) [Also in Group XL(b)] A transistor amplifier comprises an emitter follower stage V2 having its input shunted by an impedance 13, the value of the impedance being small compared with the input impedance of the stage, followed by a common emitter stage V3 having an input impedance which is high compared with the output impedance of the emitter follower stage. In order to increase the input impedance of transistor V3, a feedback resistor 18 is included in the emitter circuit and is shunted by a capacitor 19 to provide frequency compensation. A resistor 16 is included in the coupling between V2 and V3 to reduce distortion. The amplifier may be included in a demodulator for amplitude modulated pulses, in which the pulses are applied to a transistor diode 2 and a pulse lengthening circuit comprising a capacitor 3 and resistors 4, 5. A low pass filter 11 (see Group XL(b) ) may also be included. The demodulator forms part of a time division multiplex telephone exchange system.
