Abstract

869,344. Nuclear fusion reactors. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION. March 31, 1959 [April 28, 1958], No. 10806/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(4). The reactor described in Specification 853,916 is operated with an atomic ion current at least equal to [#cx / #i + #cx Io] where # cx and # i are the charge exchange and ionisation cross-sections for ions and I o is the total current of neutral particles streaming into the plasma and is equal to Nv o S/4V where N is the density of neutral particles in particles / cm3, v o is the thermal velocity of neutral particles, and S and V are the surface area and volume of the plasma. It is explained that this atomic ion current is sufficient to remove neutral particles from the reaction zone. Specification 858,734 also is referred to.
