869,027. Brushgear for dynamo-electric machines. BLACK & DECKER Ltd., and BLIGHT, N. J. June 24, 1957 [April 6, 1956], No. 10626/56. Class 35. To remove the shock danger due to breakage of a helically-wound circular or substantially circular electrically-conductive spring 11, 12, 15, Fig. 7, which is adapted to fit on to and be in conducting relationship with the brush holder B of an electric motor, the spring is accommodated within an electrically-insulating member generally of hollow ring form and having its inner wall open to allow the spring to contact the holder. In Figs. 1 and 2 the member is in the form of a U-section shield having a tubular portion 4 to accommodate a lead-wire 13 of the spring and may be either a single piece moulding or made in separate halves. In Figs. 3 and 5 the shield body 6 and a snap-in lid 8 are made of injectionmoulded polythene and also house a suppressor 16 and terminals 17, 19 to which the brush spring wire, suppressor and motor circuit lead connections are made. The shield alternatively may be made of black polyvinyl chloride or rubber, and is applicable to fractional horsepower motors used in portable tools.
