[Also in Group X] A method of sticking a marking strip on to a road or like surface comprises the steps of laying a layer of fusible bitumen on to the surface, melting the bituminous layer by application of heat, and applying the marking strip under pressure to the mass of hot bitumen to secure it in the required position. The bitumen may be applied to the surface in the form of a band from a wheeled apparatus having means for heating the applied bitumen. The marking strip may also be supplied from a container on theapparatus, at least the underside of the strip being heated as it is dispensed. Pressure is applied to the laid strip by a shoe forming part of the apparatus. The strip which may be of vinylic resin, polyvinyl chloride or copolymers of vinyl acetate and chloride, is preferably cut transversely into sections after having been laid.
