Abstract

868,675. Drying grain &c. GASCOIGNES (READING) Ltd. March 26, 1958, No. 13851/57. Class 34(2) Grain &c. is dried whilst jogging along the vibrating imperforate tray 10 of an apparatus also comprising a hopper 19, discharge gates 17, depth regulators 70, 73 and a heating chamber 14. The wet grain falls through the hopper along a gate controlled plate 21, a perforated shelf 20 and inclined shelves 29, 30, 33 and is pre-dried on the shelves 29, 20 and the plate 21 by hot air which enters the chamber 14 through a flexible walled duct 40 and the hopper 19 through a damper controlled duct 39. Cold air is supplied to the chamber 14 through a duct 47 in order to cool the grain prior to discharge through the gates 17. The hot air is generated in a box 41 by a furnace 74 and passed to the chamber by a fan driven by a motor 43 whilst the cold air is supplied to the chamber by a fan in a box 48 which is driven by a motor 50. This motor also drives eccentric mechanism about a shaft 62 for vibrating the tray, chamber' and hopper as an integral unit. The mechanism comprises a rod 60 at each side of the unit which, through pivotal connection thereto, oscillates an upright rod 51 pivotally attached at respective ends to a ground framework and the chamber 14. The unit is supported at its discharge end by leaf springs 65 which may be simultaneously regulated for effective height by a wheel 69B, chain 69A, and screws 69 such that the inclination of the tray may be adjusted. The depth regulator is operated by a handle 71A through linkage 71 whilst the effective flow through the plate 21 is controlled by a mechanism comprising a handle 24. A hopper trash outlet flap 27 and discharge shoot 26 and a dust collecting chamber 31 are provided
