Abstract

868,649. Wells. JERSEY PRODUCTION RESEARCH CO. Sept. 30, 1957, No. 30507/57. Class 85. Petroleum fluid is recovered from an underground reservoir 1 having a production well 3 and an injection well 2 by injecting through the well 2 a mixture of methane and hydro-carbons of the paraffin series having more than one but not more than six carbon atoms per molecule, the composition of the mixture being determined experimentally. Part of the mixture may be natural gas from the reservoir. Petroleum fluid from the well 3 is separated in a separator 5, the gas from the separator being pumped by a compressor 7 into the well 7. The gas is joined by other gas from a source 8. After establishing a zone of enriched petroleum fluid adjacent the well 2, the supply of the mixture may be replaced by a supply of gas such as methane, nitrogen or air.
