868,378. Weather excluders. F. T. PRODUCTS Ltd. March 20, 1959 [March 21, 1958], No. 9191/58. Class 20(3) [Also in Group XXV] A fastener 15 for mounting a metal beading 12 and a weather strip 14 on to the edge of a metal panel 10 of a vehicle, comprises a single strip of resilient material bent about parallel lines so as to have an approximately U-shaped portion 20 having a web 20A and two limbs 20B and 20C, the limb 20B being extended and bent away from the other limb 20C to form an outwardly directed finger 19, and the limb 20C being extended so as to be directed forwardly of the mouth of the portion 20 and away from the limb 20B and then reversely to form an approximately V-shaped portion 21 having an outer arm 22, an inner arm 22A and an open mouth facing toward the web 20A of the portion 20, the outer arm 22 being provided with an internally concave rib 23, and there being provided a spacing .lug 24 sheared and bent from the limb 20C so as to lie on the outer side of that limb. With the fastener 15 seated over the edge of the panel 10 the beading 12 is forced over the fastener until a rim 13A on the beading is engaged by the finger 19 and a wall 13B of the beading, engages the lug 24 and the arm 22A so that the portion 20 is compressed to grip the edge of the panel 10. The weather strip 14 consists of a metal reinforcing element 16 covered with rubber or fabric 17 to which a plush strip 18 is adhesively secured and the weather strip is provided with an enlarged head 17A which, .when the weather strip 14 is engaged. between the wall 13B of the beading 12 and the arm 22 of the fastener, co-operates with the rib formed on the arm 22 to retain the weather strip in assembly.
