Abstract
Copper is dissolved in a solution containing in solution p 10-50% wt. of a persulphate or mixture of persulphates and 1-100 p.p.m. of one or more of the metals Ag, Au, Bi, Hg, Pb, Pd, Pt and Rh. The mixture may be heated, preferably from 100 DEG F. to a temperature below boiling point. Specified solutions include HgCl2, AgNO3, HAuCl2, (NH4)4PtCl6 and rhodium sulphate. The persulphate may be ammonium and/or sodium persulphate. The dissolution may take place by immersing a metal body in the agitated solution or by spraying or brushing the solution on to the metal: the process may be used where it is desired to remove copper from objects where machining is not practicable and for the removal of copper from the unmasked portions of suitably masked copper sheets in the production of fine screens, printed circuits or copper printing plates.
