867,287. Transferring designs. FORTI, A. March 7, 1959, No. 1658/61. Divided out of 867,286. Class 100(2) Apparatus for transferring designs comprising thermoplastic resins based on metallic strips to objects of thermoplastic materials comprises a support of regulable height for the objects, a pad of elastic material disposed on a movable arm for pressing the metallic strip against the objects, a reel with the strip wound thereon, and a reel for re-winding the strip after the designs have been transferred. A thermoplastic article 4 to be decorated is placed on an adjustable support 1, and a pedal depressed to start a motor 13 and through a cam 12 lower an arm 7, whereupon an elastic pad 2 through which cooling water flows presses a metal strip 3 carrying the design in thermoplastic resin against the article. An electric current passed through the strip above the article raises the temperature and the transfer takes place. The arm is then raised, and a cam 14 actuates a group of switches 15 to stop the motor 13 and start a motor 10 to feed the strip from a supply reel 5 towards a take-up reel 6. An electric current through the strip and a sensing element 11 is used to establish a holding circuit for the motor 10 as soon as the next design on the strip has moved away from the element 11. When the circuit is broken by the next design, the motor 10 is stopped, and the machine is ready for the next transfer.
