Class 100(1) Sheet delivery apparatus for printing or like machines comprises conveyer means for conveying a sheet from the machine and release means for releasing the sheet selectively at one or other of two release positions spaced apart along the line of travel of the conveying means and defining an upstream and a downstream release position respectively. As shown the machine comprises a frame 1 to which is journalled a sprocket shaft 2 carrying a sprocket 3 for endless conveyer chains 4. The chains 4 have gripper bars 6 carrying gripper jaws 7 which are opened by means of a lever 8. The grippers are provided at intervals along the chains corresponding to the diameter of the sprocket 3 and the chains are intermittently driven. The gripper mechanism may be as described in Specifications 791,559 and 819,000. The lever 8 is operated by levers 11 secured to an off-set shaft 12 mounted to revolve with the sprocket 3 and carrying an exterior lever 14 having a roller 15 which cooperates with a stationary track cam 16. The arrangement is such that the levers 11 are positioned for operating the levers 8 every time a gripper bar 6 carried by the chains 4 arrives adjacent the sprocket 3. The cam 16 includes an inner surface 17 having depressions 21, 22, an outer surface 18, and a movable outer cam member 19 having lobes 23, 24 corresponding to the depressions 21, 22. The cam 19 is pivoted on a pin 20 secured to the frame 1. Pivoting of the member 19 causes either the lobe 23 or the lobe 24 to project into the path of the roller 15 to open the grippers at either a downstream position 46 or an upstream position 47. The lever 19 is connected by a link 25 to a lever 26 pivoted to a rod 27 and connected through a connecting rod 28 to a manually operable eccentric 29. Also pivoted on the rod 27 is a bracket 32 which carries rollers 35 which define an arcuate path adjacent the sprocket 3 and prevent radial movement of the gripper bars 6. Normally the lever 19 is set so that sheets are deposited on a pile 48. When it is desired to inspect a sheet the lever 19 is set so that the grippers open in position 46 and the sheet is deposited on a table 45. To assist in delivering sheets to the table 45 a roller 37 is provided which is connected by gears to the sprocket 3 and which co-operates with a sheet engaging segment 38 on the shaft 2. In an alternative embodiment instead of the cam 19 and two depressions in the surface 17 of cam 16 a cam with a single lobe and depression may be used which can be rotated to bring the lobe and depressions into the two release positions.
