Abstract

866,753. Filters in parallel. AUTO-KLEAN STRAINERS Ltd. Aug. 14, 1959 [Aug. 18, 1958], No. 26539/58. Class 46. Liquid, e.g. lubricating oil in a diesel engine, is introduced at 11, Fig. 2, into a header 8 to which is secured a cylindrical housing 1, and passes both inwards through an edge filter 22 consisting of a plurality of juxtaposed perforate discs of two sizes arranged alternately, and outwards through a cylindrical pleated sheet filter 53. The filtrates collect in a passage 14 and leave at 13, that from the filter 53 being restricted at 55. The edge filter members may be cleaned against a fixed scraper assembly (not shown) by manual rotation of their shaft 25. Two excess-pressure by-pass valves are provided, one only being shown at 57. A magnet is provided in the bottom of the housing 1 in the inlet space. In Fig. 4 the filters are not concentric, the top of housing 1 being connected with the top of housing 1a by channels (not shown) in a header 8. In this embodiment, flow through the sheet filter is inwards, and the magnet 5 is located in the inlet 11. The sheet filtering material may be paper, wire gauze, felt or nylon bolting cloth.
