Abstract

An elastomer-forming composition comprises, by weight, 100 parts of a siloxane of molecular weight from 3 X 105 to 10 X 105 and having 1,98 to 2,05 organic radicals per Si atom, the major proportion of the radicals being methyl radicals and a minor proportion being vinyl radicals, 10 to 150 pts. of an inert filler and 0,5 to 10 pts. of tertiary butyl peracetate. The siloxanes used may optionally contain phenyl radicals. Pigments, e.g. Fe2O3, antioxidants and structure control additives as claimed in Specifications 791,169 and 800,554, e.g. (tetramethylenedioxy) dimethylsilane, may also be added. Fillers specified are silicas (fume, precipitated and aerogels), diatomaceous earths, clays and C black. Examples are given of the above compositions and of comparative compositions in which the curing agent is benzoyl- or 2 : 4-dichlorobenzoyl-peroxide. In Example 6, a 50/50 mixture of the peracetate and dimethyl phthalate is used. Specification 798,667 also is referred to.
