Abstract
865,216. Endless belt conveyers. WHEELABRATOR CORPORATION. July 24, 1957 [Jan. 28, 1957], No. 23505/57. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] An abrasive blasting cleaning machine of the kind comprising a pair of endless link chains formed of a plurality of links pivotally connected at their forward ends to the rearward end portions of links in advance thereof to provide a front and back articulation point for each link, and flight bars extending crosswise between the links of the spaced link chains and connected at their ends thereto for travel therewith and dimensioned to have a width greater than the distance between the articulation points of the chain links so that the flight bars overlap one another at their edges, is characterized in that the centre of the flight bar is in crosswise alignment with the centre of the line drawn between the points of articulation in the chain-link. Each chain passes over rollers 56, 74 and a sprocket 58 driven by a reversible motor. The trough, in which the articles such as metal castings are tumbled and simultaneously treated by abrasive particles from one or more throwing- wheels, is bounded by discs 10, 12 having liner plates 14 and mounted on shafts 16 rotatably mounted in the machine frame. Flight bars 22 are carried at their ends by the chains. Each link 26 has a hub portion 28 with a bore 30 therethrough and a yoke portion 34, 36 with openings 38 which together with the aligned bore 30 of the following link receive a pin 40. The pin has a polygonal head 42 received in a groove 44; the pin is retained by a cotter-pin 48. Integral with the link and extending laterally from the centre thereof is a pad 24 with openings 52 to receive bolts 54 which fix the ends of the flight bars to the pads. The portion 60 intermediate the pad and the link is secured to a lower portion at the centre of the link to provide a depressed portion which receives the periphery of the disc and liner plate. The upper face of the pad is inclined, the slope preferably corresponding substantially to the thickness of the flight-bar divided by the distance between articulation points. Cavities 70 in the underside of the links 26 receive the lugs on the driving sprockets. The flight-bars are reinforced and stiffened by ribs 76 secured, as by welding, to their undersides. The flight bars have perforations 78 through which the abrasive particles can fall into a receptacle.
