Class 20(4) An anchor for the ends of wire cables in concrete structures comprises a rigid body having a plurality of passages formed in at least one group therethrough, normally to a major face thereof, each passage being adapted securely to receive one of a plurality of wire cables, the ratio of the cross-sectional area of the whole of said wires in the or each group to the area enclosed by a line drawn around the radially-outermost portions of the peripheries of the radially outermost passages in the or each group being not less than 0À2. The rigid body 1, Fig. 2, may be cylindrical and be provided with an external screw thread 2 to receive either, an anchorage plate 5, Fig. 3, adapted to be embedded in the concrete mass, a nut 7, Fig. 4, adapted to bear against a pressure plate 8 recessed into the concrete structure, or an externally and internally threaded sleeve 13, Fig. 8 on the external thread of which may be screwed a nut 14 adapted to bear against a pressure plate 8 recessed into the concrete structure, the sleeve 13 being rather more than twice the axial length of the rigid body 1 so that its internal thread can be engaged with a suitable tensioning member. The sleeve 13 may also be used for coupling axially aligned wire cables, Figs. 9, 10 and 10a (not shown). In an alternative arrangement a buttress plate 9, Fig. 5 (not shown) and one or more ferrules or washers 10 may be interposed between the pressure plate 8 and the inner end surface of the rigid body 1. The rigid body may be of hexagonal shape, Fig. 17 (not shown) or may be rectangular and may be formed with recesses 17, Fig. 14, which may be engaged by claws 19 of a tension applying device.
