Abstract

A metal mould includes a material incorporated in, or forming, pre-selected areas of the walls of the mould that is less capable of giving up heat to the interior of the mould than the remainder of the mould. A hollow article may be slush-moulded in such a mould and the article will then have a thinner wall where the mould contains the material of lower thermal conductivity. Two embodiments are disclosed in which the mould is formed by (a) spraying on different areas of the master two metals having different specific heats, e.g. Al and Pb; and (b) spraying metal such as Al all over the master, applying material of lower thermal conductivity (such as vitreous enamel, silicone rubber, epoxy and polyester resin) over part of the metal, and then spraying additional metal over all.
