Abstract
The invention comprises optical brightening agents of the formula:- <FORM:0862851/IV (b)/1> wherein X represents hydrogen, halogen or a methyl group, or salts thereof with organic or inorganic bases. The compounds are prepared by reacting in any order 1 mole of 4 : 41-diamino-2 : 21-disulphonic acid, 2 moles of cyanuryl chloride and 4 moles of an appropriate aminobenzene-sulphonamide reactant. Two or more different aminobenzene-sulphonamide reactants may be reacted simultaneously or in stages until a total of 4 moles have been reacted. The compounds may be used for whitening paper, nylon, wool, cotton, household detergents, pigments, inks, plastic articles and coatings.ALSO:Paper, wool, nylon and cotton are whitened by treatment with an optical brightening agent of the formula:- <FORM:0862851/IV(c)/1> wherein X represents hydrogen, halogen or a methyl group, or salts thereof with organic or inorganic bases.
