Abstract
The invention comprises 2-carbamoyloxy-1: 4:5:8-bis-endomethylene-D 6:7-octalin and the preparation thereof by reacting a monomeric vinyl ester of a fatty acid with dicyclopentadiene, hydrolysing the 2-acyloxy-1:4:5:8-bis-endomethylene-D 6:7-octalin formed to the 2-hydroxy compound and reacting the latter with urethane. In an example vinyl acetate and dicyclopentadiene are heated at 185-190 DEG C. in the presence of hydroquinone to give 2-acetoxy-1:4:5:8-bis-endomethylene- D 6:7-octalin, this is refluxed with KOH in methanol to give the 2-hydroxy compound and the latter is heated at 150-160 DEG C. with urethane in the presence of aluminium isopropoxide to give the required product, which is an anticonvulsant.
