Abstract
862,832. Spinning apparatus. PHRIX-WERKE A.G. Jan. 9, 1959 [Jan. 11, 1958], No. 941/59. Class 2(2). Spinning apparatus comprises a coagulating bath tank and a plurality of spinnerets for extruding a plurality of filaments into the tanks characterized in that a pair of spaced parallel walls, disposed adjacent to the tank and parallel to the direction in which filaments are to be led from the tank, support a plurality of pumps mounted on each of the walls, there being conduits for connecting each pump with its respective spinneret. The distance between the walls preferably does not exceed, or only slightly exceeds, the width of the tank. The walls may be disposed rearwardly of the tank (with respect to the direction in which the filaments are to be led from the tank), and/or below the tank. Where the walls are disposed below the tank they may be used to support it. The tank may have a transverse operating panel having two ends, the pump-supporting walls each lying adjacent to a respective end of the panel and both walls being disposed substantially at right angles to the plane of the panel. Preferably the conduits from the pumps to the spinnerets are flexible and differently coloured. As shown (Fig. 1), pumps 1 are mounted in horizontal parallel rows on a pair of upright supporting walls 2, 3 parallel to each other and disposed rearwardly and at right angles to the plane of an operating panel 4 forming part of a wet-spinning tank 5, the bottom plate of which supports a number of spinnerets 12 connected to their respective pumps 1 by conduits 11. Spinning solution is extruded upwardly into a coagulating bath in tank 5. Alternatively, spinnerets may be mounted in a cover (not shown) of the tank 5, filaments then being extruded downwardly, or they may be mounted in the operating panel 4, filaments then being extruded longitudinally across the tank. The vertically spaced, parallel rows of pumps 1 on the walls 2, 3 are driven by common shafts 6, 6a, 7, 7a, &c., connected by reduction drives 8a, 9a and gearing 8b, 9b to electric motors 8, 9. Fig. 2 shows a preferred arrangement of pumps on the wall 2 in which pump pairs 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, 1a, 1a<SP>1</SP> &c. are driven by common gears 10, 10a &c. connected via shafts 6, 6a &c. and gears 8a, 8b to motor 8. Fig. 3 shows a modified apparatus in which the wall 2 is disposed rearwardly of and below the level of a modified tank 5a, and each row of pumps is driven by its own shaft. Fig. 4 shows a further modified apparatus in which the pump supporting walls (only wall 2 shown) are disposed beneath and adjacent to the sides of the tank 5a, and constitute supporting means for the tank, in which spinnerets 12 are disposed in a pivotable bottom, as described in Specification 862,833.
