862,356. Tunnel linings. PAURAT, F. W. Oct. 23, 1959 [Nov. 7, 1958], No. 35939/59. Class 85. A tunnel lining consists of concrete blocks 1, and some or all of the blocks are pre-stressed by steel inserts 3 which combine a number of the blocks. The tunnel lining may be of blocks in a closed assembly, e.g. circular, or it may be an open arc. Some or all of the blocks have passages 2 for the inserts 3, the heads of which are received in enlargements 2a. The passages are arranged in the half of the block adjacent to the rock. As shown, two segments 4, 5 only of blocks are prestressed, steel or like boxes 6 being provided to enable the prestress to be adjusted at any time subsequent to installation. Compressible inserts may be placed between individual blocks and transverse pre-stressing reinforcements may be provided.
