An overhead camshaft valve arrangement comprises a bucket-type spring abutment 5 having an extension 9 which provides location for a valve retaining means 7 and a loose cap 10, wherein the abutment 5 is internally guided on a valve guide 4. The valve retaining means 7 may comprise either a slotted plate or split collets and valve clearance adjustment is made by inserting shims 12 of appropriate thickness.
