A storage tank has its bottom formed by a plurality of parallel trough-like sections 10 (Fig. 4) connected at their ends to toroidal segments 11, the toroidal segments on one side of the bottom being in staggered relationship with the toroidal segments of the opposite side of the bottom (Fig. 1), thereby forming in combination with the troughlike sections, a continuous serpentine passage 15 in the tank bottom 14. The upper regions of the side walls are connected by roof girders 18 arranged in zig-zag pattern to support a roof deck made of thin metal plates. The deck sags between the girders 18 and forms a plurality of conic segments 19 which afford drainage slopes in the direction of the arrows (Fig. 1). The central portion of the tank bottom 14 rests on supports 12. Columns 25 (Fig. 2) are placed on the supports 12 so as to help carry the vertical load of the stored liquid. Internal trusses 30 (Figs. 1 and 2) extend diagonally from an end wall 20 to the supports 12.
