Class 137 In a ventilator of the kind comprising a length of trunking 3 extending through, e.g. to the roof, to an air-inlet 4, the air-outlet 5 being in the building, wherein air is drawn in from outside by powered means such as a fan 10 and distributed through the outlet 5 by shutters 6, 7, hinged about points 6a, 7a, on the trunking 3 and positioned between the fan 10 and the inlet 4 but within the building, so that when moved fully one way fresh air only enters from outside. and when moved fully the other way air only enters from the room, intermediate positions giving a mixture, the shutters are opened automatically. The means to do so comprise links and lever mechanism operatively associated with the shutters 6, 7 and controlled thermostatically, whereby predetermined air outlet temperatures can be maintained constant,' enabling outside fresh air to be admitted as required and mixed with air recirculated from within the building automatically through openings 8, 9: The shutters 6, 7 are hinged along opposite sides of the trunking 3 and are connected by an arm 11 and link 12 to move angularly in relation to each other, an arm 13 having a weight 14 adjustable therealong being attached to the shutter 6 and a thermostat 15 being adapted to actuate the shutters 6, 7 through a cable 16, connected to the arm 6 and a lever arm 19 actuated by a push rod 22 controlled by the thermostat 15. In a modification the lever 19 carries a movable weight and is rocked by a push rod 22-or the lower end of the cable has a hook engaging one or other of a series of notches on the lower edge of a modified lever arm. The weights may alter-, natively be replaced by springs. Instead of links or bars the shutters can be linked by a loop of wire, the lever passing into the trunking at one end and attached thereat to the wire loop, the external part supporting the balanced weight. The shutters could be hand-operated to override the thermostat, which can be disconnected for this or other alternative operation. Specification 645,813, is referred to.
