860,800. Magnetic recording heads. SONOTONE CORPORATION. Nov. 11, 1958 [Nov. 21, 1957], No. 36197/58. Class 40 (2). A head for recording and reproducing, or alternatively for erasing, has the core-halves 30, 31, the output connectons and the coils mounted in a casing 25, an assembly clip 50 locating the transducing gap region 28 in appropriate alignment with the case for potting. The potting mixture is a resin such as epoxy with at least 50% of inorganic filler, such as silica dust added, which matches the thermal expansion of the cured mixture to that of the core-members relieving thermal stresses and raises its hardness. Those parts of the casing 25, the assembly clip 50 and the core-members above the line 27, are then ground away and the surface along that face polished to form the tape-guide. The remaining portions 52 of the clip 50 serve to " earth " the core-members electrically to the casing 25. Specification 860,801 is referred to.
