Abstract

The invention comprises 5-acyl-1 : 3-diacrylyl-hexahydro-1:3:5-triazines of the formula <FORM:0860323/IV (b)/1> in which Y.CO-represents the residue of a substituted or unsubstituted, saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid containing no double bond in the a -position. Y may represent a methyl, phenyl, b -ethoxy-ethyl, b -methoxyethyl, b -chloroethyl, b -diethyl-aminoethyl-a -hydroxy-isopropyl or allyl group. The new compounds may be prepared by condensing 3 mols. of formaldehyde with 2 mols. of acrylonitrile and 1 mol. of the corresponding nitrile YCN. Alternatively the compounds may be obtained by additive combination of an appropriate residue (e.g. diethylamine) into 1,3,5-triacrylyl hexahydro-1:3:5-triazine. The products may be used as hardening-agents for hardening gelatine layers, by incorporating therein before or after the casting of the layer.
