Class 53 A dry cell having a paper lined outer electrode i (zinc) and a central carbon electrode c has a resilient hollow conical member e of a synthetic material, which maintains pressure on the depolaniser band controls its expansion. The conical member e also supports the metal closure cap f of the cell.
