In means for transferring a row of articles, e.g. lollipops 11, from an upper conveyer 21 to a lower pocketed conveyer 27 arranged transversely to it, an article supporting platform 32 arranged above the pockets 31 of the lower conveyer receives successive rows of articles from the upper conveyer and is moved, after each movement of the lower conveyer through a number of pitches equal to the number of articles in a row, out of article supporting position to allow the row of articles to pass into separate pockets of the conveyer. The sticks 12 of the lollipops are gripped in slots in trays 13 which are propelled along rails 14 by pushers 18 depending from an endless chain conveyer 17. At a certain point all the sticks 11 are released from the first tray 13 of the series and the lollipops drop on to a band conveyer 21 which travels at the same speed as the conveyer 17. Spacer bars 23 carried by a pair of parallel chains 22 extend across the conveyer 21. A curved shoot 24 at the delivery end of the conveyer 21 is partitioned to form a number of compartments 26, Fig. 2, corresponding to the number of lollopops in each row. The lower end of the shoot 28 is horizontal and the bottom is cut away to allow the lollopops to drop into the pockets 31 of the conveyer 27 when the platform 32 is withdrawn. The platform 32 is secured to a pivoted link 33 forming part of a parallelmotion linkage 34, 36 which is reciprocated by a cam 43.
