858,760. Measuring blood pressure. WINSTON ELECTRONICS Ltd. Aug, 28, 1958 [Oct. 4, 1957], No. 31117/57., Class 81 (2) Apparatus for continuously measuring blood pressure comprises a rigid sleeve 1 for surrounding a digit flexible inflatable means 2 within the sleeve for applying a measurable pressure to the digit,' a detector 7 for pulsations in the digit and an air valve controlled by the detector for increasing the pressure in the inflatable means in response to pulsations in the digit. A digit is placed in a flexible bag 2 which is inflated through a conduit 3 and surrounded by a rigid container 1. Alternatively; a bag for surrounding the digit has a rigid outer portion and a flexible inner portion. The bag is inflated from an air reservoir 10 supplied by a pump 11. When the pressure in the bag is sufficient to stop the pulse in the digit, the blood pressure is indicated by a gauge 15. A detector 7 is located near the digit and is connected through an amplifier 8 to a magnetic valve 9 which ensures that the pressure in the bag rises until the pulsations cease. A bleed permits falls in blood pressure to be detected. A pressure pick off connectionl6 may control a device for automatically injecting medicament for raising or lowering the patient's blood pressure as desired.
