Abstract
An emulsifiable concentrate comprises 5 to 20% by weight pentochlorophenol, 75 to 94% of a liquid aromatic hydrocarbon diluent and, as emulsifier, 1 to 5% (preferably 2 to 3%) of a disalicylate salt or salts of one or more compounds having the formula: <FORM:0858687/VI/1> wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having from 8 to 22 carbon atoms, for example, decyl, dodecyl, tetra-, hexa- or octadecyl, octadecenyl, octadecadienyl, octadecatrienyl and such mixtures of these radicals which are contained in naturally occurring oils and fats such as tallow, soya-bean oil and coconut oil. The aromatic hydrocarbon may be Xylene (preferred), benzene, toluene, or mixtures of aromatic hydrocarbons resulting from petroleum reforming processes. A commercially available mixture known by the trade name "Sovacide" 544 is also a preferred diluent.
