Abstract

A solution for the removal of iron impurities from aluminium or aluminium alloy surfaces contains a soluble citrate ion together with either a soluble nitrate ion or a soluble sulphite ion, the pH value of the solution being below 2.75 in the former case, or below 7.0 in the latter. The surfaces may be treated by immersion or by spraying, and the solutions may be used at ambient or elevated temperatures.
