Abstract

858,163. Walking aids. RAMSEY, W. J. April 3, 1959, No. 11489/59. Class 132(1). A walking aid comprises side frames 1, 2 each having front and rear legs 3, 31 rigidly connected by a bar 4 which is gripped by the user or supports a hand grip 8 to be so gripped, the side frames being hingedly connected to cross bars 10, 11 forming a parallel linkage such that the user can move one frame whilst leaning on the other and move his legs freely without interference, from the frame. As shown, Fig. 1, legs 3, 31 having friction pads at their lower ends, and uprights 7 carrying the hand grips 8 are adjustably secured to bars 4. Cross bar 10 is curved to avoid the users legs and has a projection 17 to engage bar 11 and limit the movement. In a modification, Fig. 2, cross bars 10<SP>1</SP> is straight and the patient stands in the centre between bars 101 and 11<SP>1</SP>. Arm rests 16 are provided as well as handles 8. Movement of the frame in the second embodiment is limited by the hinges.
