Abstract

857,897. Spare wheels. PORSCHE, F. April 16, 1959 [April 26, 1958], No. 12985/59. Class 144 (2). An auxiliary or spare wheel, for use with a damaged vehicle wheel and tyre, comprises an annular disc 7 carrying a solid rubber tyre 8 and having stepped inner peripheral portions 11 which nest within the flanges 12, 10 of the main wheel rim and are aligned with a number of bow-shaped clamping members 13 circumferentially spaced around the disc 7, each member 13 having a tongue portion 15 to hook over the rim flange 12, whereby the disc 7 may be clamped against the main wheel rim. As shown the tyre 8 is bonded to outer peripheral flange portions of the disc 7 and the clamps 13 extend through hobs adjacent the inner periphery of the disc. Each clamp 13 comprises opposed tongues 14, 15, which respectively abut the disc 7 and hook behind the rim flange 12, and which extend from a screw-threaded shank 16 engaged through the holes in the disc 7. The shank 16 is formed with opposed. flats 17 to key with a lever 19 slidably mounted thereon whereby, when the end clamping nut 21 is slackened, the clamp-member may be rotated to disengage the tongue 15 from behind the rim flange 12.
