[Also in Group XXVI] In a machine for shearing, punching or stamping continuously moving strip, an upper tool 117 is secured in a frame 116 moved in a circular path by eccentrics 115, and the lower tool 119 is slidable in guides 118 and is connected to an arm 120 on a pivot 121, the tools moving at the speed of the strip when operating on the strip. The tools 117, 119 may be interchangeable with others for different purposes. The strip is fed by rollers connected through a continuously variable gearing unit to the drive of the eccentrics 115 which are intergeared. As shown in Fig. 9, the driving shafts such as 82 have sloping rectanguiar sectioned portions 83 engaging in the discs 78 journalled in the side members 79 of the frame 116 and constituting the eccentrics. Adjustment of an oppositely threaded rod 84 varies the lateral position of the discs 78 and so alters the throw of the eccentrics and the peripheral speed of the tools 117, 119. A solenoid or pneumatic device 124 moves the pivot 121 to cause miscuts to occur and this device may be operated by a counter responsive to the rotations of the eccentrics 115. In a modification, the eccentrics 115 are in the same vertical plane.
