Classes 59 and 86 [Also in Groups XIII, XXII and XXIII] An installation for driving power-operated kitchen appliances comprises an electrically-driven waste-disposal unit, an hydraulic pump driven thereby and means for conveying pressure fluid from the pump to an hydraulically-operated kitchen appliance. As shown in Fig. 1, comminuting apparatus 12 for disposal of waste from the outlet 11 of a sink 10 is driven by an electric motor 13 and the comminuted material flows away through a pipe 14. The motor 13 drives an hydraulic pump 19, Fig. 2, through a coupling 17, 21, the pump being disposed in an oil reservoir 18 and having a delivery pipe 23 communicating with a supply pipe 25, a return pipe 26 dipping into the reservoir. The oil from the pump may be supplied to a connector 28. The connector is arranged to receive a member 29 which is connected by flexible cables 30 with an hydraulic motor 31 carried by a handle 32. The driven shaft of the motor 31 is arranged interchangeably to receive different kitchen appliances 34 to 37 which may be a pot scourer, food mixer, egg whisk, vegetable peeler, liquidizer, fruit-juice extractor, dish washer or spin drier. The member 28 is connected by pipes 38 with the pipes 25, 26 through a valve 59. The members 28, 29 may, however, be dispensed with and each kitchen appliance separately and permanently connected to a valve which selects the kitchen appliance to which the pressure fluid is to be delivered or prevents delivery to all the appliances.
