856,172. Filters. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Aug. 5, 1959 [Sept. 4, 1958], No. 28471/58. Class 46. [Also in Group XXVIII] A strip of e.g. porous paper-like material of predetermined length is folded longitudinally about its centre line and is then pleated transversely to form pleats which taper from the two longitudinal edges to the fold 12, Fig. 2, so that the strip is caused to assume a curved shape with the longitudinal edges 11 at the inner side of the curve. It is then secured, with the inner edges spaced apart, around holes 17 in a tube 14, and the ends of the strip are joined together so that the strip forms an annulus about the tube. Several such annuli may surround the tube, in parallel. In Fig. 6 the strip is of greater length and is wound helically around a helical series of holes, the ends of the resulting helical space being closed.
